This morning Action Furnace was here before 8 to replace our furnace.
The old one (likely 20+ years old) was starting to pack it in. We had a vent and duct cleaning done on Saturday and part of the cleaning involved a complimentary safety check. Our tech discovered some pretty serious cracks in the heat exchanger. This is a serious health hazard… carbon monoxide, etc. He went through our options: fix or replace and we decided on replacing it.
On Sunday another Action man came to do the engineering evaluation and inform us of our furnace choices based on house size, etc. From there he booked our replacement appointment for today. I must say Action Furnace has been early in their appointment window instead of later.
Today 2 guys came and removed our old one and put in the new one. There had to be a few rennos to make it work: a different pipe to the hot water tank (which involved installation from the roof) and a new pipe to the outside (which required drilling into the side of our house).
There was quite a bit of clatter bang while they were removing the old one and I’m glad they were early because it was done before I had to teach. There were a few moments here and there while I was teaching live lessons, but nothing like I had expected. They were pretty much done by 1-ish. The estimate was around 2. Thanks to our wide open spaces in the storage room, their job was made easier.

Here are some pics from before and after:

  1. It took me a while to figure out how you took the picture of “the old furnace”. But that picture is from November 2013, before the basement was finished and before the wall was built in front of the furnace. Tricky! 🧙
