Lots lined up for today: Tammy’s two students are coming over for tutoring, and my Russian tutor is coming over at the same time. Then we’re off to look at a few houses with the realtor, and finally, Dad’s birthday supper is tonight. (The O.F. turned a grand 63 yesterday—happy b-day, Dad!) On top of that, I got up early this morning and caught the entire England-Paraguay football match. 🙂

Good thing I mowed the lawn last night.

By the end of today, our sewer connection should be mostly re-landscaped. I had yakked with Nigel about the approach for landscaping the short dropoff between our property and Wilson’s. He’s already carved up most of it, so the plan is to finish the job, leaving a short slope which I can finish with weed matting and cedar bark mulch.

As for the house viewing, Tammy and I had a discussion last night, and we’re considerably less enthusiastic about the idea of selling right now, but we’re going to go through the motions of getting ready to put the house on the market. Somehow, it seems less compelling than it did. I can’t speak for Tammy, but I look around at all the work I’ve done and don’t want to leave it behind… But then, it’s helping the value of our house: the realtor’s estimating it’s on the sunny side of $400k! 😮

More bulletins as events warrant. 😉

  1. I know how you feel. When we moved from Blackberry to here ALL I could think about was all of the landscaping we had done, the fence we had put in, the house was just right and the way we wanted it. BUT we could not stand the Strata on our street and the developement of houses was quite intrusive so that sort of made us feel better about moving a bit. It is normal to be down in the dumps about moving and PACKING (groan!) but once you start it feels exciting and like a fast game on how quick you can sell the house! So cheer up, and give it a try.

  2. Well, we looked at three houses this afternoon. On the whole, I think they were nicer than I was expecting. They all had their problems though. Nothing that really made me want to make a snap offer, anyways. The first one had lots of space, but not much of a yard and a steep driveway and Tammy didn’t like the neighbourhood. The second needed a bit of TLC and was just off a very busy road. The last was a new-wave strata home, which had all the amenities, except any sort of storage space and a yard.

I’m sure that we could be happy in any of them, but we’re pretty happy where we are, too. I think the wait-and-see approach is still in order.

  3. We’re thinking the Colwood, Langford, or View Royal neck of the woods. No rush; nothing really has piqued our interest. Lots of houses, but we’ve been spoiled by ours.

  4. Incidentally, we noticed one right up the street from you the first day we looked, but by the time we got a chance to swing by it, it was already sold. :'(

  5. That would be so cool if you moved to View Royal!!!! And keep watching our street. You never know — "for sale" signs pop up occasionally, and perhaps we are biased, but Brian and I think our street is a great place to live. We are also very happy with our location within View Royal because we are smack-dab in the middle of everything. We are close to downtown, but equally close to the Western Communities … I guess I could go on and on. Let’s not forget the fun we could have if you lived a little closer. I think that the psychological distance to Sooke is farther than the actual distance, but I do think that the driving is no joke, especially when considering commuting costs and night driving. Keep looking. As you say, no rush.

  6. I know. There was one on Demos, #42, just as we started looking, but it sold not too long after. We were considering it, but weren’t fast enough. Oh well.
