Last night was the season wrap-up social for the Bow Cyclist Club, and was held at the National on 10th. The event was from 6:30 to 9:30 (ish) and featured food, drinks and prizes.
The weather has continued to be sunny and dry. It was a little cooler yesterday, but nothing that a pair of jeans and a windbreaker couldn’t handle. As a result, there was an group of people who were going to meet at Bow Cycle and then ride down to the pub. I definitely wanted to do that, but in the morning, my back started acting up. I spent most of the morning attending my AZ-500 training lying on the heating pad. Things were a little better my the time to leave, but I had my doubts that I would make it downtown and back.
It turned out that maybe a ride was what I needed, because I didn’t have any back issues on the ride, and had a fun pathway cruise with Mark, Paul, Liz, Kurt, Daniel and Adam.
The party was good, with about 70 attendees. I had a couple of beers and a cider, but they didn’t have any of their dark beers available. 😢 There were mini tacos and sliders and pizza for eats, and plenty left over. There were lots of prizes. First were the prizes for “winners” in various categories (like most rides, most likely to ride a triathlon, etc.) and then door prizes.
I was surprised that Ian won a prize: Most Improved. He wasn’t there, but I accepted it for him and texted the family to let them know.
I won a door prize: a grey hat with the Smith logo on it. 😮
I didn’t open Ian’s bag, so had to wait for this morning to see what was in it. It turned out to be some 100% cycling glasses along with some socks and various stickers. That’s a pretty amazing prize!
The sunglasses came with a nice case and a second, clear lens. Ian had been talking about getting some “better” sunglasses than the various promotional ones that he’d been wearing. Now he’ll look just like Peter Sagan.
