Day 3 – Don Dons!

Today was the last of the “big” activities. We got up fairly early and were out the door and driving to Drumheller at 7:30. We were heading to the Royal Tyrrell Museum to see the dinosaur bones.

It was a great day for it. A bit warm, but most of the time was either in the car or the museum. Either way, air conditioned.

We got there nice and early, but it got busier as we circulated through the museum. I was with Ian, who was asking a lot of questions as he was taking photos of the exhibits. He was particularly interested in the continental drift and the great extinction events.

Brianna and Miranda both got to take part in creating plaster casts of fossils: cool!

I got the kids to line up at the dino-leg exhibit. The assortment of sizes is funny to me. 🤣 Zach looks a little shorter because he’s in the back. I tried to back up to get a better perspective.

After leaving the museum, we went to the fossil store on the way back to Drumheller and then to Boston Pizza for lunch.

The Right Stuff?

At my suggestion, we drove the scenic loop out of Drumheller along Dinosaur Trail and took the ferry over the Red Deer River. Yes, it was the 50 km Gran Fondo Badlands route. It’s a wonderful drive on a day like today.

Then we made our way back to Calgary and stopped at the Costco Liquor Store. They didn’t know that Costco has liquor stores in Alberta, until we were showing them the Canadian Whisky, Vodka and other bottles in our collection. They are happy campers with lots of extras to take back to BC with them.
