Dryer Repair, Updated OS

This morning while I participated in Phil’s Zwift virtual ride, apparently there were doin’s a-transpirin’. Tammy had started doing a bunch of laundry (the bed linens) and the dryer decided it wasn’t having any of it. She found a place that was open today (Able Appliance Services) and the fellow showed up before 2 pm. Apparently:

  • The age of our appliances (9.5 years) greatly exceeds what he would expect to see, so no shame in having to get the dryer looked at
  • The main belt was frayed to heck and the pulley that it went around was basically immobile.
  • The rollers are showing wear, but they are okay
  • The heating element is fine.

The dryer is fixed now, but we will need to consider getting another washer & dryer pair sometime soon-ish.

In other news, I was watching a video where a fellow bought a 2013 Mac Pro and upgraded it (yes, I’m that nerdy) and at the end it mentioned this project that allows older Macs to run unsupported newer operating systems. Our 2013 Mac Mini stopped getting updates a while ago, and it’s old enough that it has no support from Apple. I’ve kept it around and running for fun, but the chance here to actually update it to MacOS 13 (Ventura) was an opportunity.

To make a long story short, it worked and now “Mini 13” is running current software. What fun!
