Simon gave me a cookbook for Christmas called Savory Baking. It has taken me until now to actually make things out of it. Simon chooses a random page and I make whatever the recipe is (as long as it doesn’t contain avocado).

The first dish was a savoury zucchini bread. It was a lightly spicy bread topped with cheese crumbs. It wasn’t too bad. The second dish was salmon rolls. I have to admit that they taste pretty good. I’m not a lover of smoked salmon, but with the herbs and cheese mix, it wasn’t too overpowering.

Some of my other, recent, baking has been an apple pie (today that was made from apples and apple cider; fluffernutter bars; latkes, a banana bundt cake with brown sugar glaze; pork soaked in dill brine served with greek pita and yogurt-dill dip; some Valentine’s sour cream chocolate cupcakes with cherry buttercream icing and a Strawberry Shortcake martini; and some feta-spinach puff pastry turn overs.
