Water Valley Ride

Water Valley General Store invaded by cyclists

Thanks to the rained out weekend in June, today was the first “event ride” of the season for the Bow Cyclist Club. The basic outline of the ride:

  1. Start in Cochrane
  2. Ride to Water Valley
  3. Return

There were three routes: short, medium and long. The short ride didn’t go all the way to Water Valley: it turned around early to make it a 50 km loop. The long ride I did last week with some club members to try it out. Ian and I did the medium route today. It was a long ride at 89 km, but we made it! I think that the rolling road north of Township Road 280 took him by surprise at how hard it was. It was just a constant up and down without any flat at all. We started in the faster group, then fell back and joined the slower group. But by that time, Ian had burnt too many matches already and it was a bit of a struggle for the last bit back into Cochrane.

We stopped in at the DQ for lunch and talked about the ride. Ian learned a few lessons about listening to what his body was telling him.

Here’s a video of the faster group early in the ride. Can you spot Ian?
