Turkish Coffee, Dojo, Telescope, Barbeque

Today was one of those Saturdays where one thing led into the next. It all started after a rough night, with Ian waking up three times. Then he was awake for good by about 6:15 am. Grumble grumble. He’s all stuffed up. Not sure why, but it could be the teething as much as anything. His top front teeth have cut, and the incisor next to them to the right looks like it’s next. So the morning started early but certainly without a lot of enthusiasm.

Tammy got it into her head to try her hand at Turkish coffee while I kept an eye on Ian on our bed. One eye. I had the Powerbook out and was starting to learn about a dynamic webpage authoring toolkit called Dojo. It’s a long story, but in short I’ve been asked to learn how to use it for work, and I’m really happy about that. I am finally getting asked to learn about something I’m enthusiastic about. 🙂 So I was typing away while Miranda and Ian rolled around on the bed and Tammy and I sipped our demi-capus. (Just for the record, the coffee was delicious, but certainly an eye-opener!)

In the afternoon, Chris and Chantel and their daughter Savannah and their baby Eric were coming over for a visit and a barbeque. I was looking out the window at the blue sky and thinking it would be clear tonight. I had a few hours, so I thought I would finally unbox my telescope. I’d packed it away when we put the house on the market in 2006, and hadn’t removed it from the garage since. Miranda’s getting older, and I thought she might like it if I pulled it out to look at the stars. So she and I got all the pieces together and a short while later it looked like a telescope again. Unfortunately, it’s now clouded over, but the telescope’s ready to go for the next clear night.

After lunch, I was putting my scooter’s battery on the charger (it was too weak to start after months of not being used) when our guests arrived. Savannah and Miranda had lots of fun playing out back on the swings and then inside before supper. We hadn’t seen them in a few months, and when a baby is growing, a few months seems like forever. It was a good visit, and the barbeque turned out well. Now I’m stuffed to the gills. Oog.
