Supps with Dad and Carol

We had Dad and Carol over for supper today. It has been a long while since they have been over here; in fact, it had been a long while since we had seen them. They hadn’t seen Miranda walk yet.

They showed up a little earlier than planned. I had just gotten out of the shower when I heard car doors slamming. I quickly threw a robe over my towel and got the door before they rang the bell. Miranda had just been put down for a nap.

We had kabobs and rice and some cranberry-pumpkin loaf and mocha brownies with Kahlua icing. I made them each a Bartender’s Rootbeer for an aparatif. Unfortunately, we had troubles with our bbq. The flame just wouldn’t grow and it took forever to heat up. I’ve had this problem before. In the end, we had to broil them in the oven. Dad and Simon took apart the bbq thinking that spider webs had clogged the intake pipes because there was enough propane in the tank. After it was put back together, it seemed to work properly. Who knows what was up with it.

Miranda seem to perk up after some food and she and Grandma played with the blocks. A good time was had by all. I hope we can get together again soon.

  1. Yes those Bartender’s Rootbeers are to die for. As I finally had to go on the net to get the recipe and took it with us when we went back to Winnipeg and now carry with me as so many places question me how to make them. As the one I have doesn’t use icecream does yours?

  2. No ice cream, just Galliano, Kahlua, cola, and 7-up/club soda. Thanks to Evan, we now enjoy them at home. I just wish Galliano came in a larger bottle. 😀

  3. Some of the new BBQs – for the last 7 or 8 years have a funny valve set up. If you turn them on too fast, they do this weird thing like you are describing. I’ve experienced this problem before as well. The solution was to turn off the grill for 5 minutes and turn it back on slooowwwwly.

  4. Regarding the Galliano in a larger bottle many years ago my first husband use to buy the large bottles in the USA and big they were as it must have stood at least 2 feet hit something like you could buy Rye in a 40 pounder, drunks well not I but did have the boose around. So I do know it is out there:)The ones I have had use half & half cream with the cola & boose of course.
