First Submission to the Homemade Hit Show

It’s a crazy ol’ world, and I think I’ve got an overabundance of it. Maybe it’s a chemical imbalance. Who knows?

I did something crazy over the last few days: I wrote a song. I wrote, and recorded a song which I have now submitted to the Homemade Hit Show, a podcast that I have been listening to regularly since the summer. The basic idea of the podcast is that it’s a weekly show where the hosts, Tony and Dave play three or four original songs that listeners have written and recorded and they talk about them and about the songwriting process. Both of them regularly write songs and put them on the show, too. I’ve considered writing a song (and recorded a few twiddles, but nothing complete) but with being away a lot and with November being full of novelling, it’s been on the back burner.

When NaNoWriMo finished, I started fiddling around again, and then two things happened. One was Tammy was goading me to buy the recording software that I’ve wanted for a long time: Logic Studio. I said no. Not until I’d managed to get a song on the Homemade Hit Show. 🙂 The other was that I was listening to the HMHS last week, and at the end of the show, Tony asked for more songs, and said that he had a few Christmas songs and that perhaps the next show would be a Christmas song extravaganza. Immediately an idea popped into my head, and I’ve been racing ever since to get it down in the time I have available. I was crushed when on Saturday I was notified that a new HMHS was up, and that it was the Christmas show. I’d missed it. So I listened to it on the bus today, and it sounded like there was still time for one last show before Christmas, so tonight I enlisted Tammy’s and Miranda’s help, and got the song finished and sent off.

Now we wait and see if the song is accepted… I can just see I’ll be in fine shape this week, waiting for the next episode.

Update Dec. 19

And it’s been put on the show. I haven’t listened to the show yet, I’m just eating breakfast. But I have read the show notes, and my name’s there. Man, what a stress reaction reading that brought on. If I wanted a stress-free life, why do I do this to myself?

Further Update

I’ve now listened to the show, and all things being equal, I am happy with the results. Not bad for a rush job, first song ever. 🙂
