And then everything went to hell

I have trouble describing exactly how sideways things went in the 24 hours following my last post.

  • First, Tammy put through a couple of loads of wash before realizing that the dryer wasn’t working. A bit of Internet investigation revealed how to read error codes on the dryer and it seems as though it might have a faulty heating circuit. We had a couple of drying racks and a fan set up in our living room.
  • Then the next morning when Trail Appliances opened, we got the runaround. The initial offer of service was on the 26th (3 weeks away!) and right now it’s the 11th (still a full week without a dryer). Tammy called Electrolux and apparently Trail is violating their distributor agreement by not getting it fixed in 48 hours. We’ve got a referral to Cochrane Appliance Repair from Electrolux, so we may end up doing an end run around Trail. Let’s just say that both Tammy and I were super frustrated.
  • Tammy also had an issue with a student cheating that she needed to bring to her supervisor.
  • Then there was Dad.

Dad was found by Ken in his condo after having had some kind of a stroke and seizure. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Stephanie gave updates through the evening and will be back today when visiting hours open. Right now he’s in sad shape and we don’t know how it’s going to turn out. I have a suitcase packed and may be buying a plane ticket to Victoria on short notice. From what Stephanie has told me, Dad may come out of this needing assisted living. It seems that change is going to happen, regardless.

Stephanie initially texted us just as we were starting dinner (Subway: when no one feels like cooking!) and we were immediately looking up flight information. Either it was a late late flight from YYC or the next day and we didn’t know if things were urgent or not. So Ian and I went on the BCC gravel ride, and I stopped when texts came in from Stephanie and Tammy. Here are a couple of pictures to share.
