Beer Advent 2023

It might have had a rough start due to my travelling to Victoria, but each morning Tammy has been leaving an advent beer out for me. I’m running behind in actually drinking them… I suppose that’s a healthy thing? Or, I could buckle down and catch up. 🥴🍻

  1. Warka: actually tasted like it had already been mixed into a shandy. A light, sweeter taste. Claims to be a strong beer, but I didn’t sense any evidence of that.
  2. Leduc Caught in the Rain: a piña colada milkshake IPA? It was very unlike most IPAs. Not bitter. Strong coconut notes. Was very drinkable.
  3. New Scotland Rampant Lion: I really liked this one. It’s an IPA, but it wasn’t too bitter. Complex flavour.
  4. Collective Arts Guava Gose: POW! This hits you right in the sour tastebuds. Probably wouldn’t drink it again.
  5. Faxe Amber Lager: Inoffensive, as most (good) lagers are. Not particularly memorable.
  6. Torchlight Brewing Rhubarbarian: I would say that the berry notes were stronger than the rhubarb. Pleasant. Not as in-your-face as the Guava Goes. Probably would go well on a hot day.
  7. Sparrowhawk Vanilla Oatmeal Stout: delicious. A hint of vanilla.
  8. Innis & Gunn Irish Whiskey Cask Scottish Oatmeal Stout: Surprisingly dark and flavourful, but then Innis & Gunn always is exciting to drink.
  9. Torchlight Brewing Big Orange Beer: sorta tastes like a watered down orange juice. Considered putting vodka in to make it a very tall screwdriver. Might be good on a hot day.

10. Nutty Uncle peanut butter stout: just like it says on the tin. Good, rich dark chocolate and peanut butter flavour. Almost like a dark chocolate peanut butter cup if it were a beer.

11. Collective Arts Ransack the Universe west coast IPA: a good IPA. Not too crazy. Went well with a buffalo chicken wrap.

12. Double Trouble Pecan Pie Porter: solid porter. Nice and dark. The pecan/toffee notes were there, but not overpowering. Tammy thought it tasted better than actual pecan pie.

13. Collective Arts Daily Forecast Mimosa: tasted like it sounds. Orange juice with an alcoholic undertone. I like radlers, and that was what this was closest to. Very tart.

14. Kronenbourg 1664: one of those European pilsners. A classic, if sorta boring compared to the rest of these beers.

15. Dab Dortmunder Maibock: strong beer, but light-coloured. Not a ton of flavour, but very enjoyable.

16. 8.6 Original Blonde: strong beer. A little hoppier than the Dab, which gave more texture to the flavour. I really like the 8.6 beers that I’ve had in this and previous years.

17. Pilsner Urquell: a pilsner. Maybe a bit more bitter than usual for a North American brew.

18. Highlander Blackberry Wheat: strong scent of blackberries when opening the tin. Tart flavour. Would go well on a hot day.

19. Breakside Wander Lust: an India Pale Ale. Quite hoppy.

20. Faxe 10% Extra Strong: just like it says on the tin. It took me quite a while to finish this beer. Was good and I enjoyed it a lot.

21. Waterloo Dark (pour the boar!): a dark beer, nice and malty. Tammy liked this one quite a bit.

22. Hoyne Dark Matter: another dark beer. I can’t say I’ve ever had a Hoyne beer that I didn’t like.

23. Stiegl Himbeere Radler: sparkling raspberry juice with beer content. 😊

24. Whistler Brewing Company Winter Dunkel: a spicy darkish beer. Perfect for winter. Lots of great flavour.
