I went looking in the ii News archives, and I was surprised to find that I didn’t post anything when we had a few visits from a stray cat in September last year. Outdoor cats are not allowed in Calgary. This has had two impacts on us:
- Tammy hasn’t found any furry friends to adopt
- When a cat showed up on our deck, it was news.
We were worried that the cat was lost (it’s so skinny!) and it had a tag. I managed to get a good enough photo through the screen door that I could read the owner’s phone number, and got in touch. It turned out that the cat was not lost, but was a real handful when not allowed outdoors. The cat, Topaz, had an AirTag on its collar.
We chalked it up to “things we would never do” and went on with our life, until Topaz made a rather unusual appearance.
Ian saw Topaz on Fred and Anita’s roof from his window. Apparently it couldn’t get down. Tammy and Ian went over there and tried to help, and let the neighbours know what was happening. Then Tammy called the owner, who showed up and helped to get Topaz down.
A little excitement for an April Fool’s Day.
At least it wasn’t lost. Biickert’s to the rescue…
