No, I’m not being profane.

I took M to the walk-in clinic in Colwood, across from London Drugs, to have a rash checked out. It’s covering her torso on front and back, a bit on her arms and legs, and on her neck and face. I noticed it last night.

Her “problems” started on Friday morning. She had had a scrambled egg with cottage cheese and toast for breakfast. She didn’t eat as much as she ususally did, but it was marginal. A little after Simon noticed her right cheek had broken out in a lacy, red rash. It was smooth and didn’t appear to bother her. About 2 hours later it had gone away. Then later that afternoon she broke out in a fever of 103. She was just dripping in sweat. I gave her some Tylenol and the fever went down. The rest of the day was filled with lethargy, whining, hot spells, and sleepiness.

By Saturday she seemed fine. She was a little warm, but not feverish. Her eating was a little off, but with the teething this month it wasn’t unusual.

Yesterday eve I noticed the spots on her. They look just like measles, but I doubted she ahd them because she has had all the shots and we haven’t been around anyone obviously sick.

Today I took her in and the doc seemed to think it was the tail-end of the coxsackie virus. It’s quite common in young children and the “getting better” stage is amrked by a rash like hers. It can take a couple of weeks for it to vanish completely. He didn’t seem worried. her ears were clear and temp was normal. Is she has no fever in 24 hours time, she’s completely non-contagious, though the doc was certain she isn’t now.

Despite the odd fever and spell of lethargy, she seems fine. The rash doesn’t appear to hurt or itch, but I had to have peace of mind.
