As you may have heard on the weather news, southern Alberta has been pounded by some humdinger electrical storms. One passed near us last night and the constant bolts of lightning were amazing. You had 3-4 per second at the height of it. We were lucky that the hail was small, unlike Airdrie.

We’re currently having another system roll through and it was damned impressive. At it’s height the hail was falling so quickly (and the rain) that there were frozen rivers gushing down the street. The hail was small, but I have no doubt that it was still damaging. I saw a neighbour out init trying to move her car. The water was rushing by so fast, I thought she’d get knocked down. 🙂

At least two more systems are supposed to roll through today; hopefully not as severe as this one.

Here are some pics.

  1. Never a dull moment in Calgary!!!
We modified the CCR song to "who’ll stop the hail"….:)

  2. Amazing – if you didn’t know it was hail you’d guess winter had come early! Thanks for the pictures, Tammy.
