Hello from Edmonton

Today I flew from Calgary to Edmonton to meet up with the Esri Canada folks who will be driving with me to Athabasca tomorrow morning. We’ll be meeting to discuss the workshop this afternoon, but for the moment I am just catching up on stuff.

When it was confirmed that the workshop was happening, I had to choose between driving and flying to Edmonton. Given the time of year (summer), it would probably take about the same amount of time to drive as fly. It also would be less expensive by a little. But the issue was that on Friday night, we would have to drive two hours to Edmonton and then I would have to drive four hours to Calgary. So I opted for the flight. This morning’s experience was making me question that decision somewhat. Nothing bad happened, just a bunch of annoying stuff that was a litany of air travel complaints:

  • The flight was delayed about 1/2 hour,
  • The plane was full,
  • I was seated next to an absolutely enormous woman who was spilling at least six inches into my seat,
  • My bag was the last one to appear on the carousel, and
  • The car rental counter couldn’t find my reservation at first.

Sigh. Oh well, now I’m here. The flight back is at 9:00 pm on Friday night, so I’m not anticipating it being very full at all. I should have plenty of time to drive back to Edmonton, get some dinner and drop off the car.

I was out for a walk and took a photo of the Alberta Legislature.

  1. Crummy flight? Think of something pleasant, Old Bean! The water feature at the Alberta Legislature building is lovely.
Hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly! Mom
