Man, that was the longest outage the ii News has seen since we moved last. It died on me just after noon today. I stopped work, had some lunch, and when I came back it still wasn’t working. So I called Shaw, and there was an automated message that they were aware of the problem, and were working on the problem. So I worked on some stuff that didn’t require the Internet this afternoon. Still no Internet at dinner time.

After dinner, Tammy got fed up and called Shaw again. They weren’t aware of any problem in our area. So that’s when Simon rolls his eyes, puts on his Batman utility belt and starts pulling the intranet apart to see if there’s a fault on our end. In the end, all was well after I unplugged the cable modem for a while before plugging it back in. I wonder when the Internet finally was fixed? Sometime this afternoon, anyways.

  1. Hey Simon,

You weren’t alone. It died about coffee time out on the Peninsula and when I phoned the Calgary office, I was passed to the head office in Victoria and they new about it and were working to rectify it as soon as possible.

It was backup at work around 3pm and seemed to be ok when we left at 4pm. I checked our website at home and it was on and off until about 3pm as well.

Good thing we have Telus as a backup at work. I’m starting to think that SHAW is starting to build above it’s bridges these days.

  2. Yeah, it’s a little disturbing. I’ve used Shaw high-speed since 2000 and I’ve always been very happy with the service. However, just this year I’ve seen slowdowns and three outages. But realistically, what are the options? Go to Telus? LOL 😀
