Last Day of Basement Construction

It’s a busy, busy day. It’s the last day of the basement construction, according to the schedule, and so far, so good. I’ll post more later on that as things develop. But today is supposed to include: painting, cleaning, duct clean out, walkthrough and sign-off. The walkthrough is supposed to happen at 4, when Tammy gets home.

But today also marks the start of my vacation (I have set my voicemail options and out of office email auto reply) so that’s good. And the City cleared our street this morning! Just for background, apparently it has been 112 years since Calgary has received this much snow in December, and there is more on the way. Normally, the residential streets are only plowed under rare circumstances: the norm is snow then melt here. That’s the way it was in November, but there has been so much that our road became just hard-pack ice. It was starting to get entertaining to drive on it in the Golf.

To our surprise, Miranda spotted graders on the road this morning, and we all went and watched. Even for our street, it was three graders working together, followed up by an industrial-strength snowblower and a train of trucks that pulled alongside one at a time to get their load of snow!

Bonus picture: here’s one that I took on Wednesday morning from the 29th floor of the Nexen building. Snow, snow, snow!
