Last Day of Work Before Vacation

Today’s the last day before a couple of weeks off, which will include a visit with family, which we are all really looking forward to. Okay, maybe the cats wouldn’t be looking forward to the kennel if they knew, but we’re hopeful that it will be a good experience for them too.

Unlike some times in the past, I am not rushing to try to get something done before this time off. That right there is worth it.

In other news, my cycling has been going pretty well this year. Riding the trainer over the winter gave me a head start on my fitness this spring, but it’s only been in the last two or three weeks that I’ve really kicked it into gear. Part of the fun of monitoring my rides with the GPS and timer is knowing when things are changing, even if you don’t feel them. Specifically, twice this week I made it home from work in about 50 minutes. Previously, the best I had done was 55 minutes, and that was under perfect circumstances and trying hard. These two were complete surprises to me: I got off the bike and stopped the timer and was shocked by the time. It was a nice surprise. Just imagine if I wasn’t hauling 240 pounds (plus another 40 of bike and cargo) up that hill…
