Limitations on the Self

Has anyone tried to learn the guitar when a tired, teething, cranky toddler is shoving bottles of rice puffs into your face? Let me tell you it’s nearly impossible.
As a lot of you know I’ve been trying to learn the guitar for over a year now. I can usually (emphasis on this word) schedule a 5-10 minute practice twice a week but, like all my hobbies, I have to squeeze it in between all the other things I need to do during the day or once the kids have gone to bed. (By this time I’m ready for bed myself.) No matter how I try to organize my time something always suffers: dishes, vacuuming, laundry, washing bathrooms, teaching, learning German, reading for leisure, learning the guitar, etc. There must be an easier way (although I haven’t stumbled upon it yet) to ensure that I get some daily chores finished, some quality time with my children, and some me-time each day.

  1. You should buy some time! Pay the neighborhood babysitter to do some chores. I got this idea from Tony Robbins.

  2. I get the idea, I don’t know if there is such a thing in this neighbourhood. We have either very young kids or delinquent older kids I wouldn’t trust to shovel my drive. 😀
