New Avenues to Spur on Interest

Today we met with Tammi to go over the latest real estate news in Sooke. We were supposed to renew our contract with her since it expires tomorrow, but that has been extended until the 4th of February when we’ll meet with her again. Needless to say that not much is shaking here. There has been 1 sale since we last saw her. It looks like we will be lowering our price a bit when we renew the contract next month. The house will have a whole new price and MLS number in hopes of trying to generate some business. On the same topic, I have done my bit to do the same. I applied to a number of institutions in Calgary for employment. We have been toying with the idea of moving there and renting while we wait for this place to sell. The only real way we could do that is if I started teaching again. So, I sent out my resume and cover letter to four places this afternoon. The idea being that I’ll go there and rent a place, save a few bucks, and the rest will follow at the end of school. We haven’t really ironed out the logistics of this, but the kids would end up going to “real” school for the rest of the school year.

I’m not expecting much since I’ve been out of the job market now for 7-ish years. They’ll probably read my app, have a laugh, and shred it. 😀 On the other hand, if they do take an interest it’ll mean a whirlwind shopping trip to get some professional clothes. It’s a scary possibility moving away from the family for a few months and living alone in a city I haven’t been in since the late ’70s. It’s not quite the same as when I moved down from Prince George. Now we have the kids to consider. It’ll be a long drive from here to there on my own, unless I just rely on public transportation there for a few months. As I said we haven’t really figured out how to go about it. There’s no real reason to until we know we must. I guess time will tell, as they say.

Just got a call from Chinook Learning Centre in Calgary. They’re interested. The boss pretty much asked when I could start (assuming I passed the interview). I explained that I’m willing to go there for an interview since I’m still here and that if all goes well just move there ahead of the rest of us. She was very positive and said that she’d call me in 3-4 weeks when they’ll have their enrolment numbers for the next session. At that point she’ll know if they need another instructor and set up an interview either on the phone or on Skype.
