New Computer At Work

Here at work we have our computers on two year leases, so since I’ve been with ESRI Canada for more than two years, my old laptop is on its way out and a new one is on its way in. The new one arrived on Tuesday, and with the nuthouse that work has been lately I feel lucky to have been able to actually pay any attention.

But a break in the action appeared, and I took the opportunity to start installing software and moving my settings across from the old to the new. Man, what a long time that takes! I guess that when it comes to computers, I’m high maintenance. 😉 I’m constantly finding things that are missing or not quite right or annoying so I have to get them right or I’ll be distracted. I think I’ve got it now, but I have to be sure I haven’t forgotten anything: the old one has to be shipped back to Toronto within the next couple of days.

Oh, and I’ll add the following rant-like observation: who the heck decided that a 15 inch laptop screen needs to have 1920 by 1200 pixels?!? I’ve got great eyesight and I like high resolution for editing source code, but that is ridiculous. I cannot read the text when the resolution is cranked to the max, so I’ve got it set to a semi-blurry 1440 x 900.
