Before I left for my Toronto trip, I asked Tammy to get Brenn and Vaile to come and babysit the kids for an evening and we would have a dinner out when I got back. I’ve been spending a ton of time away, and I wanted her to have something to look forward to. The plans were laid, and last night the girls were dropped off by their mom at 5:30 and Tammy and I walked out to the EdGe Restaurant. It’s not that long a walk to “downtown Sooke”, but it was a bit nippy last night. Nice full moon to light the way, along with our flashlights.

The restaurant has been open for a while and it had been recommended by all of our friends who had been there, but we’d never taken the time to try it. When Tammy posted that we were going there on Facebook, Sasha threatened to crash our date and show up, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

The food was excellent. Fancier than our usual; perfect for what I intended. We started by sharing the deep fried squid with a jalapeรฑo sauce and a caesar salad. For the mains, Tammy ordered the chicken:

and I ordered the crispy tuna, which had been recommended to us.

They were both excellent, but on the whole we both agreed that the tuna was the superior choice. We had some dessert as well: Tammy had the frozen lemon cheesecake and I had the flourless brownie with blackberry ice cream. The real “find” of the evening was the beer, though.

Tammy’s first drink was a peach cider and I had a Strongbow Ale, but when Tammy suggested I have another, I chose something different: there was a “strong Belgian beer” on the menu and I ordered that. It came in a very strange bottle and the taste was out of this world. Tammy kept sipping mine so she ordered one too (unheard of for her to order beer). We looked it up on my phone: Gulden Draakwas available at our local BC Liquor Store. So we wandered over there and bought a couple of bottles to take home.

We had a nice (chilly) walk home up Townsend and across the old golf course. We were back by 8:00 and the girls went home at 8:30. It was a really nice evening. Tammy would like to do that more often and I don’t blame her. ๐Ÿ™‚ โค๏ธ
