Orthodontist – Visit 2

Today was the day the expander went into Miranda’s mouth.

Here it is:

the expander
the expander

It has been a little over a week since the elastics (spacers) were put between her back molars to make a gap for the expander’s rings. It wasn’t without incident. It turns out the gum on the right side hasn’t receded enough and the hygienist had a bit of difficulty in fitting the ring onto the tooth. After trying a few sizes a larger one was fitted onto the expander and shaved down to fit snuggly. Once the rings fit, the hygienist used some oral epoxy-like compound to glue them to her teeth. I got a test crank to make sure I knew how to do it. She needs one crank daily for 28 days. In about a week we should be able to see a gap between her front teeth as the palate widens. We go back in 6 weeks to get the mini set of braces put on.

Shots from today.
