Palm Springs Trip – Day 2

Today was the longest drive. That having been said, it wasn’t all that bad. Making regular stops and having interesting things outside the windows helps. I commented to Tammy at one point that it’s in my nature to drive straight through, not stopping any more than necessary. But on this trip, I’m finding myself quite enjoying the stops with the kids. It’s a chance to run around and get a bit of a stretch and fresh air.

Today was a long, straight stretch south from Portland to Eugene, followed by a climb into the mountains and down into California. The first event of the day was stopping for gas. Not much of an event, normally, but I was approached by a fellow who needed a jump start, and I obliged. Perhaps the good karma helped to fend off the weather until we were down out of the mountains. The kids enjoyed the mountains. Got lots of pics. Unfortunately, once we left Yreka California (where we had lunch at a cheesy, kitschy place that served good food and lots of it), the rain closed in and the drive became monotonous.

We made it to Dunnigan, California. The place we stayed the last time is no longer a Best Western, it’s a Hotel 6. They were almost full up, so we went next door and we are at the America’s Best Value Inn (a.k.a. Lucky Best Motel) which is right next door. The room is bigger and the WiFi is better than at the Super 8 last night, so that’s all good.
