Resuming Normal Activities

Yesterday marked a return to normal activity for me. My mystery rib injury remains a mystery. I’ve been to the doctor again, and my tests were negative: no broken ribs, no soft tissue damage. The doctor suggested that I take it easy, but resume activites as I saw fit.

So yesterday morning I finally got to move the remainder of the topsoil off of my driveway. It’s been slowly being used up since April first! I’d finished off the last official job with it, then got hurt. So I shoveled about 15 wheelbarrows of dirt into the backyard with no ill effect. Miranda helped, in her unique way… pulling her wagon behind me, picking dandelion flowers, pretending the driveway was the ocean and she was fishing from her wagon, which was a boat. 😉

In the afternoon I decided that when I went to the roller hockey rink I would bring my gear, and if we our team didn’t have many players that I would play, otherwise I’d wait another week. To make a long story short, I played in the game. I made it clear to the rest of the team that I’d be taking it easy and I did. When something looked like a collision might happen, I peeled away rather than fight for the puck, I spent a lot less time skating hard, and more time trying to get in the right place. It paid off: not only did I not reinjure myself, I scored a goal. A pretty good return, I’d say. Too bad our team lost 7-4. One more game, then the playoffs.

  1. I’m glad things are improving. Did the Doctor have any suggestions for the low blood pressure? Sounds like Miranda enjoyed having her Dad around to play along with. I hope she is feeling better, and Ian too.
Dad has been busy powerwashing the driveway in preparation for topcoating it with a sealant [he did it several years ago]. We seem to be keeping busy, even though I make every effort not to do much in the hot weather – I hate it! ‘Mustn’t ruin it for those who enjoy this weather. Keep well. Mom
