Softball Update…

Had to rant somewhere… This year of Softball has been interesting for me. Once again I am running the team and it’s getting easier every year. This year I have 18 people on the roster and believe it or not it’s still a crap shoot whether or not we have enough players. I guess that’s why I always try and get more people on then required….

Last week was fun, we went up against the team we beat in the tournament last year. So we knew how they played and likewise for them. Regardless it was a fun game, no arguing, decent whether, good time had by all and hey we even tied it up. A big improvement from last year. It was interesting as a lot of the players are new this year and some of our usuals are gone. I guess being in B Division took the pressure off so all us of are just having a good time now. Which is what it’s all about.

This weeks game was interesting. I figured because of the rain it was going to get called but, it only drizzled a bit, so we continued on and about half way through the game it stopped. As the game progressed I had no idea who are team was. Out in the field we were snagging them left right and center and making plays I’d never seen before. Up to bat it was a few innings of 5 run in’s. (Max per inning is 5) After the 5th inning at a score of 20 to 4 the other team said, that’s it we don’t want to play anymore… Still a fun game and they were really a nice team to play. I felt bad for their team as none of them had cleats so they spent a lot of time sliding, landing on butts, backs and tailbones, OUCH!

Let’s see how next week unfolds…… Pray for nicer weather…

  1. When I started playing hockey again after moving to Victoria, I was playing for a rec league team in Oak Bay. I wasn’t very confident in my skills and I felt I was the worst player on the team. I felt that if I didn’t show up, my team would probably stand a better chance of winning. So I missed a game or two. However, I was confronted by some of my teammates after doing so and was disabused of that thought: by my not being there, they didn’t have enough players to field a team with enough spares, and in so doing I had made life harder for my teammates, not easier. Now I never miss games unless I’m sick, injured or out of town.

    I’m still no Phil Esposito, though… 🙂
