Still More Silver Lining

Short Story 1: LINC has been renewed by IRCC for next term. Yay! πŸ’΅

Short Story 2: (I think ) I’ve been offered full-time, daytime LINC for next term.

Long Story: A co-worker at Columbia let slip last week that she had been approached by the daytime admin (well before the COVID chaos started) about possibly co-teaching a daytime class with me. I hadn’t heard anything about this, so I was surprised and skeptical. Daytime gigs are very hard to come by – I’ve been there since 2017 and have applied for one at the end of every term. Last I heard from the chief admin of daytime LINC was that no-one is giving up their jobs. On Monday the daytime supervisor contacted me asking if I was still interested in daytime teaching. I said I was and that co-teaching was also fine. Today she got back to me with a few more details about the job (it can’t be co-taught online) and I said I was interested and available. Now it sits with the chief admin and I await further instructions. It seems to me that I have a daytime gig next term. πŸŽ‰

Limited Detail: If it all works out, I’ll be teaching 9.30-2.30 M-R and 9.30-12.30 on F. The lessons will be a combo of asynchronous and synchronous because 5h straight online with 18 students would be hellacious. When I know more, I’ll be posting more. meanwhile, I need to watch tutorials and get comfortable with Office 365 and assorted 3rd party apps to help me teach online. It’ll be chaos for the first little while anyway. Very few have online teaching experience and the students have limited digital ability beyond Google and What’s App. 🀣

  1. A toast πŸ₯‚ to you my dear. I don’t know if it’s cause and effect, but I know that you’ve taken the bull by the horns with the online teaching. I’m sure they noticed. It will be tough, but I know you can do it.
