Taking some first steps in renovation

The basement was one thing. This is something else. This weekend I did a few things around the house which are the first steps towards renovating the areas that were finished when we moved in.

We are very happy with our house and its location, and even the cosmetics of the interior aren’t really that bad, especially for first impressions. But the fact remains that parts of the house are tired, and other parts have been finished in “less than skillful” ways. With the basement done, that level of finish is even more apparent.

So this weekend, I did three things:

  1. I chipped away some of the patch-stipple garbage that had been used to touch up the paint “oopsies” in the master bathroom,
  2. I installed a dimmer switch for the lights in the master bathroom, and
  3. Tammy and I started picking out a vanity and paint colours for the master bathroom.

Sure, it’s not much, but it’s a start. It will probably be left at that for a while, since Tammy doesn’t want me painting until we can open the windows for fresh air.

I can envision it, and the steps to get it done.

In other news, Ian came down sick again this morning. Barfing and fever and chills. Oh yay. I have no idea why he’s sick again, but summer can’t come soon enough.

In other, other news, I’ve been on the bike a fair bit. It’s still very tough to get on the bike on normal work days, but when I’ve been home on the weekends or working from home and not commuting, I’ve been able to ride every day. I really like the Shaw PVR: I use it to record bicycle races and I watch them while I’m on the trainer. I might not be getting quite as intense a workout as if I was doing a riding training video, but it seems to work and motivate me. Right now, I’m working through my recordings of the Tirreno Adriatico.
