Today’s weather wasn’t too bad. Tammy and Miranda were at a Stampede cookout event at Columbia College (more on that later!) and Ian was out and playing with Josh and Joey. I was in the basement, working.

But at the end of the day, we could hear thunder growling off in the distance and I decided I would take a walk before a storm arrived. I watched it as I walked, and could see that it was approaching. When I got home, it wasn’t raining yet, but the sky was threatening. I sat out on the deck to watch it come in, when my phone went off with a tornado watch. Tammy immediately sent me a link to the Weather Network’s live feed, and we suddenly realized that this was more serious.

The purple part (the heart of the storm) was tracking towards “the northwest suburbs of Calgary”… hello, that’s us. Ian is over at Joey’s house, and he snapped this on the approach.

The weather closed in, and I took this timelapse out the window. Curse the builder who didn’t give us a window that looks southwest!

But then the weather closed in with torrential rain with some hail mixed in. We couldn’t see anything, or hear anything. Murphy was in his cat carrier in case we needed to rush downstairs and we were on alert.

And then as quick as that, it was over, and blue skies were above us. I guess we dodged it.
