First Outdoor Ride of the Year

…and I only fell over twice.  😀

Yesterday Simon and Miranda rode to her friend’s house to see how far away it was.  On the way back Miranda took the pedestrian path back home while Simon carried on up 12 Mile Coulee Road for more of a workout.

Today he suggested we go and take a ride out that way since it was such a good day.  I was a little hesitant because of the temperature, the road conditions, riding on the road on my new seat, and using my clip pedals.  So I bundled up in some thermal pants and shirt, bike shorts, jersey and cycling jacket and we were off.  The temperature was pretty good.  My ears were a little cold, but nothing too unbearable.  My new seat was virtually painless – not sure why it isn’t when on the trainer.  The roads weren’t too bad.  The clips…well, like I said…I only fell over twice.  😀  The first time I wasn’t paying attention and realized that I hadn’t unclipped until I had already stopped.  I tumbled over onto someone’s driveway.  There were no injuries or rips.  It wasn’t so bad. From there on I kept one shoe unclipped sine we were riding in traffic and I was already panicked enough. The second time was after we had pulled into our driveway.  I was unclipped, slowing down, and leaning over to put my foot down when I heard the *click*. Oh no!  I clipped myself back in and there was no time to unclip. So I tumbled over again.  I’m sure there must have been a couple of people busting a gut in their front windows both falls.

The ride out of town was fine.  It was one of the routes the Bow Cycle Club takes.  I said to Simon that I could easily do this ride as long as I skip the to and fro Bow Cycle part.  I think the ride up Tuscany Hill would do me in before I even get a chance to do the rest of the ride.  Maybe one of the Sunday rides I’ll meet up with them and try it out.
