We picked up a new barbeque today. We’re having the Spicers over for dinner and the old one is giving up the ghost. I looked into getting a new burner, regulator and knobs for the old one, but I felt that discretion might be the better part of valor in this case: the last thing I need is a barbeque blowing up in my face.

So now we have a Thermos Traditional, picked up at Canadian Tire for $200. 40,000 BTU and no-tools assembly. I just gave it a “curing” burn of 15 minutes, and all went well. No lava rock in these new ones, I was surprised to see. They have a heat diffuser shield which serves the same purpose and helps to keep grease off the burner.

Will have to get a cover for this one: the old one was bought three years ago and survived being out in the rain and some salt spray at our old apartment. I’d like to get more life out of this one.
