25th Anniversary Dinner

This evening we celebrated our 25th anniversary with a family dinner at The Keg downtown. We wanted to do a bigger celebration including friends, but the logistics of getting something everyone could do at the same time proved more challenging being in a different province. Sadly, Dad and Carol couldn’t attend as they had to be in Mexico by a certain date in order to get their permanent residency. I’m sure we’ll plan for something with them a little later.

The day started out with a visit to Elegance Nails in Westshore (CanWest) Mall for a gel manicure. Stephanie had wanted to do one while they were in Calgary, but everywhere was booked. She said we’d get them done when we came here. I had never had a gel manicure before and I hadn’t had a manicure done in over a decade. We walked down and met her and Bri at the mall where we all got our nails done. At the same time, Simon and Ian were out and about looking for somewhere that sold Spinnaker’s flavoured soda (they were unsuccessful). Afterwards, we walked back up and met them before going back to Dave’s.

In the afternoon, we went to UVic in hopes of finding me a replacement baseball cap for my 27-year-old Alumni one that is frayed and faded. Sadly, they don’t make them any more, but we got to walk around part o the campus and see the changes, and Miranda got a used book of Byron’s poetry for a buck. From there, we got some Tim Horton’s iced coffees before going to Thrifty’s Broadmead to look for that soda. (It’s supposed to be that good!) Still, it was nowhere to be found. We drove the back roads back to Dave’s.

At 5.30, Stephanie and the kids showed up to collect Dave and at 6 we drove downtown. We parked in the open lot down by the water (next to where merlin’s nightclub used to be). The top box is on our car, so parkades were out. We had a short walk to The Keg and were taken up to our table. The place was jumping and they didn’t seem to be having any staffing issues. I had a Watermelon Cosmo and Simon had a couple of Hoyne Pilsners. Zach had a blackberry daiquiri. I, of course, had the 6oz steak with caesar salad, veggies, and cauliflower mash (it’s really good!). Simon had similar with mashed potatoes. Miranda had pistachio crusted salmon and Ian had the Keg burger. Dave had steak and mash, Steph had steak with shrimp, Zach – the Keg burger, and Bri – blackened chicken. For dessert, we shared the Mile High Chocolate Cake (Miranda and Ian also shared one) with a coffee, and Bri had the fudge brownie sundae.

After supper, the four of us went for a walk around the inner harbour to settle the food. It was nice and warm and not too busy. We stopped to watch a street performer. Ian took some nice pictures.

It was a very enjoyable evening (and morning). Thank you everyone for being able to share it with us.💚
