Today I’m turning 41. 🙂 I will say, that birthdays are guaranteed to be fun occasions when you’ve got young kids around. I don’t think there would have been nearly as much fuss if it had just been Tammy and I. The day started with waffles and bacon for breakfast, with cards and presents.

Of course when you’re 41, presents include things like shirts and pants for work. But I did get a new bike computer. It’s a Wahoo Fitness RFLKT+, which works with my iPhone to show me my speed, cadence, climb and lots of other things. I will be trying it out properly tomorrow with my bike club. I already have installed it and set it up. Tammy now has my old case to mount the old iPhone to her bike.

Then we were off to Calaway Park. Ever since the kids found out that the opening day was on my birthday, they have been certain that that would be the big event of the day. We got there about quarter past opening, and the crowds were building, but never got to be too much. Ian was estatic: he is finally over 48 inches tall (about 48 and a half, actually) and that meant that he could go on a bunch of new rides this year including… DUN DUN DUN… the roller coaster. The coaster has a high-speed camera that takes your picture as you whizz past in the corkscrew. It cost $9, but I thought getting this picture was worth it:

He was so excited about it he managed to get Tammy to take him on it later, while I was with Miranda. Yes folks, Tammy went on a roller coaster for the first time since back in 1997, when she braved the kiddie coaster at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In fact, Tammy was brave today, in a screaming-her-head-off-with-her-eyes-closed way. She went on the Storm Center with me as well. Miranda loves that one, and is anxious to take Zachary on it with her when he visits. Here is a picture of she and I while we were waiting our turn to go on the Wave Rider:

It wasn’t all really scary rides. We had fun going on the swing ride. I got video of that one.

Miranda and Ian capped the day by going on the roller coaster together. Tammy and I watched from the ground. She took some slow-motion video of the kids going upside down over our heads.

Here are some shots from supper.

  1. You sound like you had a blast! What a lovely birthday. Yes kids are great cause you get to act like a kid without thinking a second thought. Zachary is dying to come to Calgary and I am sure he and Miranda will be on all the rides 🙂 Can’t wait. Happy Birthday!
