(Great) Grandma 1925-2022

Over the past couple of weeks I have been in contact with Auntie Jenny and Uncle Wayne and my cousins, Yvonne. Some time during the weekend of April 23/24 my Uncle Leyton found Grandma on the floor of her condo. It turned out that she had been there for likely a good 12 hours. She was rushed to ER and then was moved to ICU. She was severely dehydrated and malnourished. Nothing was broken, but sounds like she hadn’t been taking her meds for quite a while.

On May 2nd, I was able to talk to her via Yvonne’s cell. She didn’t sound too bad, considering. One might even say upbeat and friendly. Due to some misunderstandings, we hadn’t spoken in many years. I knew this was likely going to be my last time. I was also speaking to Yvonne beforehand. Grandma had had a few rough days of slipping in and out of delirium. She was calling for Granddad (he died on January 5th, 1983 and she never fully recovered from that) and kept refusing to eat and drink.

Today at 7.30am PST, she finally decided to go and join him. Auntie Jenny and Uncle Wayne were there. They, along with Uncle Leyton, will see to the arrangements. She will be buried next to Granddad at the Royal Oak Cemetery. She would’ve been 97 on June 4th.

May she finally be at peace now that they’re reunited.
