A Day of Vacation

With everything happening last night closing the deal on our house in Calgary, that left us today with a very short to do list: contact the home inspector and the mortgage broker. Those were done easily, and that left us with most of the day to help get Tammy comfortable with Calgary.

We were up early again, and headed onto the +15 walkways to the coffee shop… which wasn’t open. It was 8 am, but I guess they open later on the weekend. The +15’s were pretty much deserted, and some of the passthrough doors were even locked. We made our way over to the Banker’s Hall and Core Mall (downtown malls in the +15’s) and found a Second Cup that was open there.

Then I suggested to Tammy that since everything was closed still, we could hop on the C-Train out towards the Northwest. She got to see what the C-Train was like on a non-busy day, and it also helps to nail down how far things are. It only took about 20 minutes to get out to the major shopping area at the Crowchild Crossing, where we wandered around. It was a nippy morning, and rosy cheeks were the order of the day:

It was beautiful and clear. The mountains were on display:

We took the train back downtown, and wandered through the Calgary Olympic Plaza, near the Municipal Hall. We were looking at the outdoor ice rink,

when I noticed the old City Hall and it’s rather distinctive clock. Now I will be able to answer Ian correctly when he asks me for the tenth time: “Does Calgary have a big clock?”

There also was a great view of the Calgary Tower.

Then we headed to… Ikea! 🙂 We will need to get some furniture once we move. It was very weird to be at Ikea and not be under the gun to get something. Whenever we’ve been at the Richmond store, we’ve either been on the Ikea bus or taken the car over on the ferry. This was just looking around and having lunch.

The afternoon was “down time”. Lots of watching HGTV. We were (and are) tired as heck. We roused ourselves to go over to the Eau Claire Market around 5, and walked down to the river, then went to Sakana Grill for dinner. We ordered the “Love Boat Deluxe” dinner for two. Two? Ha! It could have fed four. Went for a walk afterwards, and took this pic of the hotel:

Really missing the kids, and can’t wait to get home. ❤️
