A Tour of Bowness

Not the Tour de Bowness, but something much more relaxed. A few days ago, Rob Crooks posted that he was going to lead a ride through Bowness, from the park to the Hextall Bridge, with stops along the way to point out the history of the area and what’s happening there now, with the Community Association and everything. It sounded interesting, and an opportunity to get outside instead of riding indoors. The weather was going to be nice: a little under freezing to start and a little over to finish.

Ian and I got bundled up and out the door. Tammy wanted to join in: she thought it sounded like fun, but she doesn’t have a bike with studded tires. It wasn’t strictly necessary: Rob, Amy and Enzo all rode without studs, but I wouldn’t have been comfortable without them. We rode down to Bowness Park and met up with Rob, Lee, Amy and Enzo. I think Rob was hoping for more people (and some outside the BCC), but we were who showed up.

It was a good ride, and we learned about the history of the area, including how it was a village outside of Calgary and then a town and then it was incorporated in 1964. The roads were good enough that nobody fell over.

After the tour was done, we went to Cadence Coffee for a warm drink and a bite. Meanwhile, Tammy had dropped Miranda at work and went to Bowness Park herself. She was walking around, enjoying the weather. Ian and I went through there to say hi on the way home (missed her the first pass, circled back and found her!).

It was a great way to get out and get some fresh air.
