It’s the end of Day Two of our house hunting trip in Calgary, and we’re trying to close a deal. I know, it’s pretty fast, but we did work pretty hard today, and we have been laying a lot of ground work over the past months. We already had a pretty good idea of what we were looking for and where. So we were able to narrow down what we would look at. Our realtor, Monika, did a good job of lining things up for us today: eight showings.

Four showings in the morning left us with one house that we really liked, one that would do in a pinch, and two “no”s. That was better than I feared, so by lunchtime I was somewhat more relaxed (don’t ask how little sleep Tammy and I got last night).

Four more showings in the afternoon netted us two more “likes”, a “maybe” and a “no”. We talked things over at the last showing (the “no”, it was empty), then Tammy and I went to Denny’s for their food and free WiFi Internet. We got some needed sustenance and I got to map out the possible contenders. I wasn’t happy until I could do that. We sat and wrote down on the backs of the property listings Pros and Cons of each, until we had a pretty firm “A”, with “B” and “C” fighting it out and a firm “D”.

Once we had that much, we agreed that we didn’t have much to gain by sleeping on it: the market here is a bit nuts with houses getting sold quickly. We made an offer at around 6 on our “A” option, and we got the counter by 8:00.

We have sent another counter back a few minutes ago. Should know things by 10 or earlier. So we’re watching HGTV and drinking coffee.
