Columbia College Christmas Party 2023

This was my first year ever going to my workplace Christmas party. Previous years were not possible due to childcare, illness, and concussion. This year, we held out hope to make it.

It was held at the Pinebrook Golf and Country Club like it is every year. It’s an event for the whole of the College, which is a lot of people. We got there at around 5.45 (doors opened at 5.30). Ian drove us there. It was his first crack at driving in winter conditions. The roads weren’t all that bad considering what the date is. We were greeted by the ladies handing out name tags. Then we moved onto the next table where we guessed how many Hershey Kisses were in the jar. We also got a raffle ticket each. Then we were greeted by Dr. Tom Snell, the president of Columbia College, and his wife before we were offered a glass of prosecco wine. We moved into the main dining area where many tables had been set up.

I eventually found a co-worker, Lori, and her husband and we joined them at a table with Lena, another co-worker, and her husband and Karen from HR and her husband. Lori had been on mat leave and then decided to work online, so I hadn’t had a chance to talk with her for ages. The place slowly filled up and around 7, Dr. Snell gave a speech before one of the hostesses started the games for which tables got to go up first for the buffet. We were positioned right in front of the podium and were among the first tables to go. The everyday item that got us in sooner: a set of car keys.

The buffet was delicious. There were mini bread rolls of all varieties; Simon and I took a rye one each. Then came the salads, the charcuterie board, and fish dishes before we moved onto the hot entrees. There was a variety of warm vegetables, salmon, chicken, paste, and prime rib. The next table was the dessert one and not wanting to take any chances, I grabbed some of that too. I took a beignet, a cream puff, some melon slices, and a mini strawberry parfait. Simon got us a couple of drinks and there was also white or red wine served.

After dinner, the raffle tickets for gift certificates were handed out and the winners for who guessed closest to the number of chocolates were announced. These ended up being a few who had guessed the same answers, so Dr. Snell flipped a coin to determine the winner and runners up. We didn’t win anything, but that’s ok because there was dancing!

We asked Miranda to pick us up at around 10. She made it there in one piece and without crashing the car. 💜 It was a little slippery in places on the way home, but we got home all safe and sound. It was a very pleasant evening.

That you to Miranda and Ian for chauffeuring us.
