Yes, even with the darkening days and the onset of crummy weather, I’m still logging lots of rides per week. Today was something a little special: as I said to Tammy when I got home, I slew my white whale. Back on the 2nd of June, soon after I started riding regularly again, I rode a loop around Kemp Lake Road (clockwise). I found out on that day that there is a very steep hill and I ended up having to walk my bike up it. How embarrassing. 😠 Since then, I have done that loop in the other direction (counterclockwise) a number of times, thus avoiding going up the hill. Well, today I took it on for the first time and I managed to get up the hill without walking. I also did the whole loop a lot quicker. On June 2nd, it took 43:30. Today, it took 36:07. That’s seven and a half minutes less to do the 14.3 km.

As they say in the rules:

It never gets easier, you just go faster.

As an interesting tidbit, since I track all of my rides, I could look up how much riding I have done: 1,071 kilometers in 123 rides for 43,000 calories burnt.

  1. I hope you have good lights on that bike for these dark mornings.
And think of your knees as you ride up the hill. Nag, Nag, Nag. –It’s a mother’s prerogative!!![that really doesn’t look right]
On another topic, tell Tammy [and Colin] that we enjoyed the e-jokes this week! Thanks! Mom

  2. Actually, since the switch to Standard Time, the mornings are bright enough that I only use my light on "blinking" mode for visibility. And I am off work early enough (4 pm) that it’s still daylight there too. We’ll see how it is closer to the solstice.

The problem was how chilly it was this morning. Need heavier gloves.
