Finally, a bit of a breather

I know that a few people have noted that I haven’t been posting much here, other than the major events. This is true, and the primary reason for it is that things have been very busy at work for a very long time: literally since February of last year. It’s been a crazy time with lots of project work that has been successful, and somewhat reassuring in this day and age when unemployment is pretty high. Nevertheless, it has left me with very little time to jot down thoughts and even less inclination to sit at a computer outside of work hours.

Right now, I have one long-term project and I’m supporting a proposal process and also providing remote support for a team of consultants who are on-site with a client trying to determine a performance problem. And that’s what I consider a bit of a breather. 🙂 I think what’s making the difference is that with my long-term project, I’m leaving a big chunk of the core development to David and Jiro, and I’m sorta running around filling in the gaps and coordinating. It seems to be working, because I trust them as developers.

So there’s the remainder of this week, then three days next week before Canada Day and I’ve got the Friday off, too. Then one week, and then I’m off to San Diego for a week to attend the ESRI User Conference. Then two and a half weeks off, then another long weekend and the Scorpions concert. At the moment, the working-to-off ratio between now and the second week of August is 14 working days / 33 days off = 0.42. 🙂
