Yay! 🙌
Notes from the visit to the urgent care centre:
- The woman who was putting on (and taking off) casts on this visit wondered why I hadn’t taken my cast off to wash over the two weeks. Uh, because the other guy said don’t get it wet and don’t take it off???
- My hand was so stiff and shaky and sensitive after it came off. I could barely wash my hands.
- I finally got an answer as to why they didn’t see the fracture on the initial X-ray: the line of the break was exactly on the shadow line of where the meat of my hand met the fingers. Almost like it was traced. On the follow-up X-ray, the shadow line wasn’t overlapping, and the break was clear as day.
- The X-ray showed the break knitting. The doctor said that since it hadn’t displaced in the two weeks before I had the cast and was healing well, that I didn’t need a new cast. They buddy-taped the pinky to my ring finger for the ride home.
- I’m supposed to work the hand and fingers now. Squeeze ball, range of motion.
- Sports are okay, but take it easy. I think I’m pretty fortunate to have cycling as my sport of choice, since under normal circumstances I don’t have impacts to my pinky, unlike catching baseballs or similar.
- I can’t make a fist: the fingers are so stiff from disuse.
