New Futon Bed / Couch

Anybody need a broken down ’70s floral pattern couch? We’ve got one going begging. 🙂

Tammy and I just finished replacing the old couch in the TV room with a metal-frame futon couch that folds out into a queen size bed. It sorta happened quickly and in stages, but now that it’s all done, I’m happy with it. There are lots of reasons that we’ve done it and I could list them, but the short version is:

  • Tammy wanted to replace our futon mattress in the bedroom because she was having trouble sleeping,
  • we got a new futon mattress, but didn’t toss the old one. The kids were jumping on it in the TV room.
  • Tammy suggested finding a futon frame on Used Victoria, and located one for $10, but had trouble meeting with the seller
  • Tammy spotted one outside the junk dealer’s place on our way home here and mentioned it one morning this week.
  • I offered to ride my bike down there at lunch. I did. Don wanted $20, I gave him $10. It was black, showing spot rust from being outside, but otherwise in fine shape.
  • I took it apart, got it home, got some Tremclad (off-white) and with a bit of sweat equity, it’s clean, bright and presentable.

Now we’ve got a very presentable guest sleeping area and a couch that doesn’t sag to the ground in places.

The funny thing is that it’s… large. Being a queen size, it’s larger than your average sofa and Tammy looks a bit like Ronnie Corbett when sitting on it. 😉

Thanks to Mom and Dad for the couch after all these years. It’s lasted us since summer 1995 when we moved up to Prince George.

  1. We bought that couch at upstairs at Woodwards, in their colonial section, the year Stephanie was born – 1975! I really don’t think it owes anyone anything! I’m sure Colin and Carol will enjoy the "new" bed.
