Oversized Last Pickup

So I come home from work yesterday and out front of our house are our Recycling boxes turned upside down, which means the recycling guy has come by. However, this time I notice that the boxes have two Orange stickers on them. Which usually means I forgot something that shouldn’t be recycled or something along those lines. So I pull in the garage go down and get the boxes and the sticker says, “OVERSIZED LAST PICK-UP”, of course with nooooo definition of what that means. So, this morning I get to work pickup the phone and phone these guys and the excuse I get blows me away……

The guy on the other end of the phone is nice enough and totally knows what this means and proceeds to tell me that my Recycling boxes are “Non-Conformant”. ? WTF? Is that even a word? Seriously WTF? I just bought these 2 months ago. They are essentially twice the size of a regular Recycling box in height and that’s it.

The guy then says and I can’t believe he says this, “That the recycling thing is getting out of control.” Out of control? Aren’t we suppose to be helping the environment by recycling more and as much as we can? He proceeds to tell me that people are wheeling blue Garbage cans down to the curb and using those as recycling cans, ok that I can see as being a bit much. as there is no lift on these recycling trucks for lifting heavy cans into the bins on the trucks. I ask him if I should take my blue boxes back to where I purchased them and try and get the regular size ones.
He promptly says, “I would” So I said to him, how many of those regular sized ones can I have on the curb then? He says you can have as many of those as you like.
To top it off some of my neighbors recycling wasn’t even picked up. They had flattened boxes in a box to be thrown into the truck and then recycled and they didn’t even take that. They took the stuff in their blue boxes but, not the extra boxes. I swear, that we had a recycling driver that was just having a really really bad day. At least, I was able to peal the sticker cleanly off the box so that in 2 weeks time I can put the same boxes out again and see if I get tagged again….

Recycling out of hand, pullleeezzz.

  1. Totally agree. If they aren’t allowed to use the bigger boxes (which are clearly marked recycling) they shouldn’t be allowed to sell them in the stores. Recycling thing is getting out of control?? I would take that quote and go to the media with that. I guess in their eyes the planet is not worth saving…..

  2. What a load of you-know-what!! "Oversized, out-of-hand" I’m speechless and LMAO at the same time. We just use an old cat box (pre-cleaned, of course), 1 "regulation" box. and a large Rubermaid bin and haven’t been given any guff. Sometimes they throw back stuff that is clearly within the recycle numbers and I put it back out the next time. I think it depends on the guy who’s on shift. Sometimes you get some real @#$holes and other times they’ll take a car if you left it there. 😀

  3. Oversized pickup? I thought you were talking ’bout your big white GMC!!! 🙂

  4. Here is Kamloops we use the large recycle cans that are on wheels and usually don’t put them out until 2/3rds full which get picked up at the same time the garbage can does. I have heard that they aren’t able to handle the amount of recycle that households are putting out. Someone needs to get a move on this system as that is the way we are moving "green" on everything possible. Happy Easter to all! Hi to your folks Simon for me and enjoy your supper.
