Today, I took the Tiguan in for its first service and to purchase the roof rack crossbar kit. I brought it home and installed it:
The initial plan was to get the crossbars prior to ski season, but with our upcoming trip to Victoria and the fact that we will have stuff to bring back with us, it made sense to get them now. The box pictured here is the one that we got with the Mazda 5. I was worried that the bars would be a different distance apart and I would have to futz with the mounts (this is an old Thule box, without the easy adjustments of the new ones like our ski box). But it turned out they were exactly right, so it took almost no time at all.
With a bike on the rack and the top box on, we’ll really look like we’re on vacation when we’re on the road!
Can you drive into the garage or do you have to remove it first?
I think Simon could make it into the garage at high speed,,,But it wouldn’t do the box or car much good…(HA Ha) Dad.
No, it doesn’t fit in the garage with the box on. 😉
But one time when it was on the Mazda, I drove into the garage on Amethyst. It scraped, but it made it. The Tiguan rides higher, so it would be ugly if I did that now.
