What’s With This Weather?

We knew that it was supposed to be a nice week, with highs up to about 9 or 10 degrees, but when the radio came on this morning and gave the weather report, it was unbelievable: a high of 16 today, with 18’s and 19’s for the week, and maybe as hot as 22 on Saturday.

And this after I took my commuter bike and Miranda’s bike to Bow Cycle on Saturday to get them tuned up for the season! Ugh!

So I pulled my road bike off the trainer this morning and rode it to work. Skinny tires and lots of gravel on the road made for an interesting combination, but I made it. The worst was a solid sheet of ice here, on Varsity Estates Drive. At first I assumed it was water, because the temperature was so warm, but I slowed and stopped and got a closer look. I started walking my bike over it, but it was so slippery, I couldn’t even do that. I had to get on my knees and scootch across the road to the shoulder. Crazy. That was the only bad bit.

So, are we in for an early spring? Or will there be another freeze and dump of snow? I like how I’ve set myself up for success either way. If there’s an early spring, it’s extra riding time. If there’s a dump of snow, it’s extra skiing time.

Yay me!
