Trip to Palm Springs – Day One

Here I am, updating from Willsonville, which is just south of Portland, Oregon. We’ve just finished the first day of our trip down to Palm Springs. From Tuesday to Thursday next week, I will be attending the annual ESRI Developers’ Summit, and Tammy, Miranda and Ian are all coming down for a vacation. It was a bit of a gamble. Not knowing how the kids would react to a long day in the car meant that it could be a very loooooong three days to get there and three more coming back.

So far, so good. We left our place at 7:30 this morning and we were at the Coho ferry dock for about 8:30. We were there in plenty of time. Customs/security check was at 9:00. There weren’t any problems with our paperwork. While we were waiting, Miranda and I watched for the boat and were lucky enough to see a harbour seal. The ferry trip was fun. We had good seats, and Miranda found a couple of little friends to play with.

Then came the first 1/2 day of driving. We left Port Angeles and followed the 101 all the way to Olympia and then the I-5 to Portland and beyond. I’ll put more in about the trip later, I’m tired…

  1. Yes the first day of driving went quite well. We did the drive from Port Angeles to Portland in one trip without bathroom breaks!! Let’s hope tomorrow’s trip from here to, hopefully, Sacramento will go equally as well. Stay tuned.

  2. Hi Guys! Thanks for posting some information. At least we know you are doing fine. ‘Hope the rest of the journey is smooth sailing.
