And Then the Bug Hit

Man, what a way to end Christmas.

Started after supper… no, wait. For Miranda, it started in the morning, but we didn’t know yet. She wasn’t hungry for breakfast, and didn’t eat a lot at lunch or supper. After supper, we put the kids in the bath, and they certainly didn’t do their usual noise level in there. When I was washing them, Miranda and Ian both complained that they had been feeling “full” all day. Just when the kids were getting dry, and I was communicating that to Tammy, Miranda barfed, and that started a Christmas night that won’t make my top ten ever.

In the end, they were barfing all night. We set up beds for them in the living room where they could sit up more and we could keep an eye on both of them (Ian kept going to sleep in his room and then not waking up in time to use a bucket: lots of laundry last night and today). I stayed until I started feeling suspicious around 11:30. I really thought I was joining them, but then I guess my body fought it off and I’m alright today. Tammy stayed in the living room with them all night. We’re not lively this morning.

Colin and Carol have headed out for the day, shopping and such. Ian and Miranda are much better, but we’re keeping a close eye on them for relapses.

  1. Last night (Boxing Day night) the kids were looking like perhaps we were going to have a relapse, and I wasn’t feeling great either. But nothing transpired overnight, and the kids are obviously back to their rambunctious selves this morning. I went for a bike ride and feel as good as new.

Unfortunate that it happened during Christmas and the visit from Colin and Carol, but that’s life. I’ve been in communication with Jackson on Facebook, and his girls are having the same thing, but Jazzy went first and Shanelle went second, instead of simultaneous sickness like our kids.

  2. Yikes! I’ve just read your site! Merry Christmas to all! I checked your site about 9 last evening but there wasn’t this information on it, wonder why. I’m sorry the kids caught the bug, but am glad they have bounced back so quickly. I sure hope Dad & I don’t get it [how selfish is that??]. And that you and Tammy don’t come down with it either. Get well soon.

  3. How’s it going? I don’t know if no news is good news or if no news means everyone is too sick to post!!! Get well soon.
    Love, Mom

  4. Well, I was down and out yesterday, and Tammy succumbed last night. I am better today, and took the kids out to Michaels in the morning to pick out a craft we could work on together in the afternoon. We ended up with a "make you own colorful bouncy balls" kit. :-). Tammy was able to get some rest and looks to be in beer shape this evening, but we’re in bed at just after nine.

Fingers crossed that we’re over it in time for Miranda’s birthday.

  5. 😀

Better, although I would say "hungover" is the approximate level of functionality if you need the visualization help. 🙂

I managed to do a short (6 km) ride this morning after I woke up early and couldn’t get back to sleep. Not much traffic at 5:00 am. Lots of deer, though.

  6. Simon, you and Tammy are going to have to provide entertainment for Miranda on her birthday as Dad and I will take a pass on that. We’ll take you all out for dinner a little bit down the line when the flu is just a distant memory.
Dad & I [especially Dad, he insists]are too run down after our colds [which still persist on a small level], to take the risk of catching your flu. Do understand. We love you all, but you are on your own with this one!
Happy New Year to all and Happy Birthday to Miranda!~ Love, Mom/Nana & Dad/Grandpa
