Celebrate The Continued Cold Weather

… with swimming! 🙂 It was a busy day today with things for the kids. Well, first was for me: I needed to run over to the vehicle registration office. The Alberta registration for the Mazda 5 was expiring on Monday. It was a painless process: only one person in line ahead of me. The kids enjoyed running the car through the car wash afterwards. Did you know that there is a bylaw against washing your car in Calgary? It’s true. They don’t want detergents going into the drainage system and into the river. Of course, I violated that a couple of times after moving here before I learned about it. So there’s a roaring trade in car washes here. We’ve been using the one at the Petro Canada in Crowfoot. It did a pretty decent job of the Mazda today.

Ian’s tennis was at 1:30 and I took him to that. Tammy was going to go to Sobey’s with Miranda while I was doing that, but when she went to leave, her “check engine” light came on. Unlike Penny, Tammy didn’t want to drive it. We’ll be dropping the car off at VW tomorrow.

Miranda’s tennis was at 4:00 and we all went to that, then went from there to the Southland Leisure Centre for some fun in the pool. It was a good time, with lots of trips down the watersides and playing in the wave pool. The only downside was that it was a little cooler in there than usual. Perhaps it was because it is still below freezing outside, but the upshot was that Ian was shivering after only a little while. We took him into the steam room a few times to warm up, but it was him that eventually made us call it a night. Dinner was at Mittellini’s in Silver Springs.

  1. It turned out the problem was I needed new glow plugs (spark plugs for diesel engines) and my coolant changed. Not big jobs, but costly labour-wise. Not under warranty, so we’re out of pocket. I should’ve become a mechanic.
