Field Trip to Butterfield Acres

Today the Grade 1 classes went on a field trip to hunt pumpkins at Butterfield Acres. I signed up as a parent volunteer and was responsible for a group of three: Ian, Yasmin, and Zephyr.

We all climbed on the bus at 9 and headed a little bit out of town to the farm/petting zoo (it’s about 5 min from Walmart in Royal Oak). We got off the bus, washed our hands, and went in search of pumpkins. We were driven around the farm in carts pulled by a tractor. The kids found pumpkins hiding among the trees in the forest. They all piled out of the carts and ran through the trees collecting their pumpkin each before getting back into the carts. We drove back to the main buildings where the parents had a quick run down on decorating and clean up. The kids ran around and had snacks then we went into the “studio”, drew faces with pens, then glued anything from feather to beans on the pumpkins before setting them out to dry.

After decorating I took my group around to see the assorted animals. We got “gobbled” at by the turkeys and the geese were honking. Brad the horse was really friendly and we even found the resident cat. 🙂

At 11.30 we piled back onto the bus and headed back to school. I’ll assume Ian will be bringing home his pumpkin on the bus today.

Some pics.
